How your Pitru Tarpan is performed

Your pandit opens the video call from the Shipra ghats and shows the tarpan setup.

Sankalp is taken aloud with your name, gotra and your ancestors' names read from a card visible on camera.

Water, til and kusha are offered to the three generations of ancestors on both maternal and paternal sides as guided by tradition.

Dress Code
- Simple, clean traditional wear (kurta-pyjama, saree or salwar kameez) is preferred
- White or light-coloured clothing is traditionally worn for ancestral rites
- Avoid bright colours or festive attire for this solemn ritual
- New or freshly washed clothes are both acceptable, but cleanliness matters more than novelty
Rules & Guidelines
Before the Puja
- Share the names of your ancestors (as many generations as known) and your gotra in advance
- Avoid non-vegetarian food, alcohol and tobacco from the previous evening
- Bathe and dress simply before joining the live stream
- Note any specific pitru-dosha remedy your priest recommends ahead of the ritual
During the Puja
- Join 10 minutes early to confirm your connection
- Remain seated calmly and respectfully through the tarpan
- Avoid interrupting with calls or conversation during the puja
- Keep hands folded during the closing prayer
After the Puja
- Consume prasad within the window on the courier slip, generally within a week
- Continue any remedies (mantra japa, annual shraadh) the priest recommends
- Avoid discarding the sacred thread or ash casually; immerse them in flowing water
- Keep your recording and receipt for future reference
