Before the Puja

- Take an oil bath (abhyanga snan) at sunrise if your family follows this tradition
- Wear new or freshly washed festive clothing before the priest joins
- Position your camera so the gudi and doorway are clearly visible
During the Puja
- Follow the priest's guidance for hoisting the gudi at the correct auspicious time
- Keep the household gathered for the sankalp and aarti
- Taste the neem-jaggery prasad together as guided, symbolising the mix of life's sweet and bitter
- Avoid stepping away during the hoisting and closing aarti
After the Puja
- Keep the gudi hoisted through the day and bring it down at sunset, as per tradition
- Share the neem-jaggery and other prasad with family and neighbours
- Note the panchang highlights shared for the year ahead
- Store the gudi cloth and kalash respectfully for reuse next year, if your family prefers
