Gaya or Ujjain for Pind Daan? How Families Choose
By DevPravas Editorial Team · · 1 min read

Families planning Pind Daan or Shraadh often ask which place is right. DevPravas offers ancestral rites in both Gaya and Ujjain, so we hear this question regularly.
There is no single correct answer for every family. Here is how the two places are understood, and how families usually decide.
Gaya: the place most associated with Pind Daan
Gaya, on the banks of the Falgu river, is the place most strongly associated with Pind Daan in Hindu tradition, and many families regard it as the primary place for these offerings. If your elders specifically ask for Gaya, it is a natural choice. See our Gaya page for what is offered.

Ujjain: the ghats of the Kshipra
Ujjain is counted among the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) and is home to Mahakaleshwar. Its ghats on the Kshipra (Shipra) river are used for Tarpan, Shraadh and other ancestral rites, and DevPravas pandits perform these there. See our Ujjain page.
How families usually decide
Most families decide on three things: what their own tradition or elders prefer, which pandit or arrangement they trust, and whether a slot is available on their tithi. If you are unsure, ask your family priest first.
If your tithi is close and slots are limited in one city, the other can be a practical alternative. Whether the two are equivalent for your lineage is a question for your family's tradition, and we do not claim to answer that for you.
What stays the same
Whichever city you choose, the process is the same: live video, a sankalp with your name and gotra, the offerings performed by a verified pandit, and prasad shipped afterwards. Prices are the same for both, as listed on our pricing page.
